Introducing you to Central Queensland
Situated in Central Queensland on the Eastern Coast, Rockhampton; the undisputed Beef Capital of Australia is the major regional town, situated approximately 40km from the stunning beaches of the Capricorn Coast.
This area, also known as Capricornia, extends west to the Central Highlands at Emerald, north to Mackay and south to the major Port of Gladstone.
Central Queensland is an important centre of rich primary industry, including the Bowen Basin; affluent in high quality coking coal and the port of Gladstone producing 40% of the states export earnings, and housing and aluminium smelter. Australia's 2nd largest river system runs through Rockhampton and commands significant water resource, and the region produces approximately half of the state's electricity.
With a population of over 74,000 people and more than 300 days of sunshine per year, Rockhampton lends itself to an abundance of tourism activities all year round. The coastal strip between Yeppoon, Emu Park, the Great Barrier Reef and many national parks. Surrounded by more than 20 suburbs and regions, this sub-tropical climate experiences a perfect 22 to 34 degrees Celsius in summer and a low of 9 to 22 degrees Celsius during the winter months. This sub-tropical weather lends itself to a contented, relaxed lifestyle.
Rockhampton caters for every standard of living and is home to 8 major shopping centres, all which include national major retail outlets including an $80M Stockland Shopping Centre upgrade completed in August 2009. Students have the option to enrol into an internationally recognised and regionally networked University. Four popular, local Radio Stations dominate the area, Win Television leads the local news service and The Morning Bulletin newspaper operates in the Capricornia Region, along with four other local newspapers.
The Rockhampton Base Hospital is situated on 'The Range' and is the major hospital for the Central Queensland region. The beautiful Botanic Gardens established in 1869 and the Rockhampton Zoo are situated only minutes away, dominating much of the South Western division.
Rockhampton is an important transport hub in the Central Queensland region, providing transport links between the Central Highlands, Capricorn Coast regions and areas to the North and South of the state. Well serviced by the National and State highway systems, connected by an electrified rail link between Brisbane and Cairns with the express tilt train and the recently upgraded airport is essential to the viability of the tourism industry.
Rockhampton's fantastic geographical position, developed infrastructure, transport and increased tourism assists a steady, strong property market.
